OEM Products & Warranty

Since you have reached this page, we take it on us to help you clarify your possible questions - one by one.

What is OEM component?

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. In its most common and traditional sense, an OEM is a company that manufactures products or components that are then purchased and re-sold by another company under that second company's brand name. The OEM is the company that actually makes the product or component or part. They have the factories, the machinery, the expertise, and the workforce to produce it

If you are good so far, then OEM component would imply any component that is manufactured by an OEM company. Examples of OEM components thus could be, OEM Laptop Batterys, OEM Laptop Chargers, OEM Motherboards, OEM .... [this should start making some sense by now].

Is OEM component, say OEM battery, different than original battery from brand?

This is a crucial question. It often confuses masses. Let us try to address it.

We will take a reference for example and ease of understanding. Say, you find a product listed that is "Dell Original Laptop Battery ..." and then another one that says, "Dell OEM Laptop Battery ....". These are not the same in many ways, and same in other ways.

First: They are same on factors like compatibility, supportability.

Then: They are different on factors like warranty, possibly the quality, and surely the cost.

Hang on! Explain a bit more, and compare them for me - can you?

Yep. In above example, both Dell Original and Dell OEM for a specific model are supposed to fit and function nicely (compatible and supported) provided you compare the two for same Dell laptop model. At TPSTECH we provide free guidance regarding the same when you are making up your mind.

Then, a Dell Original will find a place in Dell's support & warranty systems. You can claim the warranty directly from the brand - Dell in this case. Cost of this product would be as per Dell's MRP & seller discounts as usual.

Dell OEM on the other hand could be a laptop battery produced by the original manufacturer (the OEM) that supplies to Dell as well, but OEM also sold through an unofficial channel warranty - most likely because OEM manufactures in super bulk quantities - at times more than what Dell requested. In this case, the battery itself might be technically the same as the one Dell would put in their laptop, but the warranty is the major difference. And obviously for this reason, the price could be significantly low as it is driven by OEM or the component importer in a country/region.

Ah! I see. So, who provides the warranty for OEM products then?

Simply the OEM. Now as an end consumer, you purchase OEM products from a seller/retailer - like tpstech.in - so warranty of all OEM products purchased from tpstech.in will be provided by the seller.
